Human Resource Management vs Talent Management


 
                                                                   

Human resource management is an administrative part that delivers on core HR needs and services to the organisations.(Jenniferd, 2023c) It is about managing day-to-day organisational operations. It is responsible for the managerial functions involve with, 

  • Compensation;

  • Employee relations;

  • Recruitment and hiring;

  • Performance management;

  • Coaching;

  • Benefits.

Talent management is about ensuring that the organisation has the talent it needs to succeed strategically. It stands as the cornerstone of organisational success, encompassing the holistic approach of attracting, recruiting, retaining, and developing individuals who drive the company towards its objectives. on the other hand, is more focused on managing an organisation's most valuable employees (Contributor, 2024). This includes tasks such as: 

  • Identifying and developing high-potential employees;

  • Succession planning;

  • Engaging employees;

  • Retaining top talent. 

Main differences between HRM and Talent management

  1. Hiring, training, and retention of employees used to be concerned with the duties of the HR department, but with talent management, these duties are federated to the front-line managers leading the employees in question.

  2. HR is more admin-focused, dealing with salaries, vacation days, benefits, and complaints. While talent management is almost single-handedly focused on helping and improving the top talent in the organization.

  3. Talent management is strategic, often exhibiting as a company-wide long-term plan closely associated with overall business objective. HRM is more tactical, dealing with the day-to-day management of human resources.(Talentedge, no date)

Conclusion

Human resource focuses on day-to day administrative tasks and core HR needs, while talentce management and talent management are two distinct concepts with different goals. Human resource management management is strategic and aims to attract, retain and develop top talent to drive the organization towards the objectives. while HRM deals with the tactical management of human resources, talent management is more focused on the long term strategic planning associates with overall business objectives. both functions are essential for organizational success, but they serve different purposed in managing employees effectively.
